It could honestly be one of so many different things that your best bet really is to have your doctor do an ultrasound, CT scan, and possibly even an endoscopy to find out the cause. Why he would say it could be a growth without doing tests is beyond me because all that did is worry you but I've found lots of doctors do things like that without thinking.
There are so many possibilites (some even minute and easily fixed) that I wouldn't try to figure out what is wrong thus worrying yourself sick until you've had tests.

i have had food sticking in the middle of my chest for a few months,now i am getting a discomfort behind my right breast bone,i have been to the doctor who has said this could be a growth?i am worrying myself stupid..does he mean cancer?at the time i just couldn't ask.i have been told i need to have a camara down to investigate..what els could it be?
