For now I will call myself CancerWife and my husband Travel-Man. Travel-Man was diagnosed April 27, 2011 with Stage IV Lung Cancer w/met to the brain which included five tumors. The main source of cancer was located on the outside of his lung but attached to the lung, trachea and spinal cord. We called it THING #1 and one tumor on his left Adrenal Gland you guessed it we called it THING #2.
He went through four treatments of Chemo which included Carboplatin-Taxol and Avastin and four intense radiation treatments to the brain. He immediately went into remission and was doing very well on Avastin maintenance until April of this year. The cancer had metastasized to his lower back around the nerves. He just finished three weeks of radiation treatment last Thursday. On Friday we went to meet with his Oncologist which ordered a Chest x-ray and found that THING #1 is active again. He immediately ordered a Spinal Tap to determine if the Cancer cells have spread to his spinal fluid. If they have the only treatment is Chemo to the brain/spinal fluid. The doctor says it has only about a 30% success rate and the quality of life during the treatment is less than ok. We won't know anything until this Friday.
I try very hard to stay positive as the wife of a cancer patient. The fear of losing your spouse is the most horrific thing I can think of besides losing a child.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Spinal Fluid/Brain Fluid cancer, the treatment and the outcome?
