a friend of mine has throat cancer. He had one chemo and 2 of 35 radiation treatments. he wants to quit. how long will he last?

im very worried. he is 65 and just wants to do pain management and not lose his taste, hair etc. i dont think i can get him to go back. will he last long or will it be a worse drawn out experience?
