I was diagnosed, originally, at the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2008. Cancer is scary. It's tough stuff. I have also learned that cancer is a learning time, a time of blessings, a time of connectedness, and time to re-evaluate and to celebrate.

My cancer journey started at the age of 39 when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatment included radiation and chemotherapy as well as hormone therapy. I am an attorney who was brought into the field of patient empowerment through no fault of my own. I have been a patient and now I am a care-giver for my ill, elderly dad. My hope is that we can return to a time when physicians and patients shared mutual respect. It was a time when the government and corporations stayed out of the patient-physician relationship.
