When I first joined Pink Ribbons Project, I wondered, “How can such a small staff produce such great events?”

Posted Apr 13 2011 12:00pm

Now that I have experienced a few events myself, I can tell you…it’s our fabulous volunteers! Our volunteers are the helping hands behind the scenes of everything that goes on at Pink Ribbons Project. They participate in all aspects of the organization from serving on the Board of Directors and various committees, to helping in the office and at events. Volunteers lighten our load by doing everything from stuffing envelopes, taking recycling, going to the Post Office, blowing up balloons, setting up and cleaning up at events and numerous other tasks.

As I am working on this draft, Babs Eaker walks in the front door of the Pink Ribbons Project office. What perfect timing! Babs, a breast cancer survivor, is one of the dedicated volunteers I am describing. Babs tells me that she heard out about Pink Ribbons Project when her surgeon, Dr. Mark Shusterman, sent her an email asking for pledges for Tour de Pink. She made the donation and that got her on the mailing list. After her surgery she became involved with Pink Ribbons Project because she wanted to do something for breast cancer awareness. You can find Babs at our offices most Tuesday mornings helping out the staff in any number of ways. Tour de Pink is Babs’ favorite event – she is a participant and serves on the event committee. When asked what she likes the most about being a volunteer at Pink Ribbons Project, she said, “Making a difference, a contribution to the community I live in.”
