The Story of Grace

Posted Apr 06 2010 7:00am
From Lump to Laughter - The Story of Grace was written by Connie Hill and talks about her experience with breast cancer and her relationship with God throughout the process. "Grace" was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34 when her children were 1 and 3 years old. This book is the story of the year from diagnosis through treatment. Interestingly "Grace" and I live in the same town and apparently used the same breast surgeon. He and I were not a good match personality wise but he is a good surgeon so I stayed with him. He is referred to in the book by a pseudonym which does make a girl curious.

Grace goes through diagnosis, bilateral mastectomy,  chemotherapy and reconstruction. Through her journey she finds the "gift" of breast cancer and has turned her experience into a ministry. She discusses the effect that cancer and her spiritual journey have not only on her but also her husband.

Who should you give this book to? Recently diagnosed women you know from church. Women who have a relationship with God. My copy is going to a friend of mine who trusts God in all things.

Don't give this book to? Anyone who's spiritual journey you do not know well. People can have significant changes in their faith when faced with serious illness and you don't want a well meaning gift to get thrown away.

For more information about the Lump to Laughter ministry check out their website . The book can be purchased on the website as well as on Amazon .
