The LA Race for the Cure (click for photos) was yesterday, and Team Peaches raised over $2500. Woot. Again, here’s a big hug and thank you to the members of the team for coming out on a chilly Sunday morning instead of staying under the cuddly covers of a warm bed. Not only did they participate by running, they designed guys’ and girls’ T-shirts plus a cool sign for the tailgate tent, which you can see in some of the photos. They brought refreshments that were all peach: peach nectar drinks, peach yogurt and gummy peaches . They thought of everything to make the day fun. And it was really fun. The rousing energy was palpable, and it really empowered me. While I did not participate in the race, the team members organized a finish finale with everyone linking arms with me so I could walk the last few feet of the track across the finish line.
As for the race, although there were multitudes of participants, it was an organized event. All of the sponsors’ tents were lined up on the inner circle closest to the stadium, and the tailgate tents were lined up on the outside perimeter, which happened to be alongside the race route and allowed us to watch as our team members returned to the finish line. It was amazing to see the huge numbers of race participants. At last count I think they said 12,000 participants had crossed the finish line, and there were still many more after that.
Oh yes, today we got a mention in the LA Times LAT Extra section, our 15 minutes of fame for Team Peaches .
