Pink Ribbons Project has been VERY busy this month with spreading the word of Breast Cancer Awareness and we couldn’t be happier about it! We have amazing supporters and volunteers who are consistently willing to give back and get their community, family and friends involved. And Boy has it paid off! So far this month alone we have raised over $20,000 and have reached over 2,500 people.
And these are the incredible events that raised the funds and awareness…
Kicking of the Breast Cancer Awareness month was Hollywood in Houston Strikes Out Cancer - on September 23rd, Mi Casa Broadcasting hosted this event at Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge. There was free bowling, a band and a silent auction. A super fun event to begin the month of October which raised over $2,000 !
Pink Slippers – On October 2nd, we continued the tradition of partnering with Leapin’ Leotards to participate at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure. 170 students from more than 10 high school drill teams represented Pink Ribbons Project at the Race for the Cure Finish Line to cheer on the survivors and hand out flowers. It was a wonderful morning and we got countless thanks from the participating breast cancer survivors that our “tunnel of hope” was inspirational and moving. Thank you to Lise Price of Leapin’ Leotards for recruiting the students and providing the shirts – it was an amazing day!
Dig Pink! – Langham Creek High School hosted a volleyball tournament to raise funds for Pink Ribbons Project – and through t-shirt sales, concessions and a silent auction, the Dig Pink volleyball tournament raised more than $2500! The best part of the evening was the “Survivor Tribute” when all breast cancer survivors were introduced individually and given a rose. Pink Ribbons Project supporter and six year breast cancer survivor Kelly McCaslin who’s two daughters were past Tour de Pink top fundraisers spearheaded the event!
Sheldon ISD Pink Out! – Pink Ribbons Project had the honor to be the beneficiary of last Friday night’s football game between CE King HS and Crosby HS for the first annual Sheldon ISD Pink Out! This was an incredibly important outreach event for the Sheldon ISD Atheltic Director, Vince Sebo, knowing that the average household income in the district is $39,000 and that breast cancer awareness was not a part of the culture in the community. The district rallied together and raised more than $7000 for Pink Ribbons Project! Below is a picture of me with the CE King Panther Mascot (also dolled up in pink!) and the CE King drill team in their pink tutus doing their salute to breast cancer survivors.
M Penner Fashion Show! – As a post-celebration of the June Pink Night Out event, M Penner hosted a fashion show with breast cancer survivors as the models! Karen and Murry Penner are wonderful supporters of Pink Ribbons Project and they had an amazing time celebrating breast cancer awareness month with Pink Ribbons Project and the art of fashion! Below is a picture of our very own Debra King strutting her stuff down the catwalk at the fashion show!
Pink for a Purpose – Last night, the Media Alliance of Houston presented a night of the arts to benefit Pink Ribbons Project at the Mosaic on Hermann Park. Through donations for our Giving Tree program and a silent auction, Pink for a Purpose raised almost $9000 for pink Ribbons Project!! Amazing! It was a wonderful evening to showcase the arts, including our first display of pieces from Pink Paint! LaToshia Carter who chaired the event was thrilled to partner with Pink Ribbons Project knowing that the funds raised would stay locally her in the greater Houston area. Below is a picture of the space with our Pink Paint art on display!
The best part of all of this is October is not even over and we have more events to come! Stay tuned…
