Insulin levels and breast cancer

Posted Jan 22 2009 6:04pm
According to researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University higher-than-normal levels of insulin place postmenopausal women at increased risk of breast cancer. The findings are published in the January 7 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and they suggest that targeting insulin and its signaling pathways may decrease breast cancer risk in these women.

Obesity is a well established risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer. Many of the premenopausal women I know who have had breast cancer, including myself, have been overweight. There is more information about this research available here.
