I am not a political commentator...

Posted Sep 28 2008 1:38pm

I am not a political commentator. I weigh options with candidates, and choose the BEST person no matter what their political affiliation. I say this because I am in no way supporting either Presidential candidate, but I am stating facts.

I have received the official word that Barack Obama has chosen not to participate with the LIVE STRONG Summit at Ohio State University this week. It came right down to the very end, and it is a disappointment. It is sending a message - a strong message to US cancer patients and activists. Nevertheless, I remain very excited about the other speakers that will be taking a HUGE and active role in the weekend.

Although both candidates will not be in attendance, the LIVE STRONG Presidential Town Hall on Cancer will make cancer part of the national dialogue and advance progress in the cancer fight. It has never been about me or my wants - rather is has been an issue of how can I bring about change in cancer care! The Grassroots and Advovacy track I have chosen will be a great way to sharpen my skills.   Luckily YOU can witness firsthand through online webcasts some of the work being done. Here is a schedule of what YOU can see at www.livestrong.org

Online Keynote Speaker schedule ( All times Eastern ):

Thursday July 24 @ 6:30 PM

LIVE STRONG Presidential Town Hall on Cancer w/ Senator John McCain. This event will be co-hosted by Lance Armstrong and Paula Zahn. (No Obama Unfortunately)

Friday July 25 @ 8:30 AM

Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th Surgeon’s General of the United States

Friday July 25 @ 4:30 PM

Dr. Harold Freeman, President and Founder of the Ralph Lauren Cancer Center in Harlem (I am soooo excited to be working with him).

Saturday July 26 @ 8:30 AM

Stefanie Spielman, Founder of  Stefanie Spielman Breast Cancer Fund and three-time cancer survivor

Sunday July 27 @ 10:15 AM

A panel discussion: Dr. E. Gordon Gee, The Ohio State University; Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN; Dr. Bernadine Healy, U.S. News and World Report

I have some pretty tough and detailed questions that I want to throw out there.Who knows…you may see my ugly mug!You can also keep track of what’s going on at the Summit by reading the LIVE STRONG blog. LAF staff member Brian Howe will post updates all weekend from the LIVE STRONG Summit. Check back regularly to read the latest news.I am hoping to update my own site regularly, as well as upload photos if I can swing the computer issue.

Whether you’re in Columbus, Ohio, or in the comfort of your home, I hope you will be inspired and empowered by the 2008 LIVE STRONG Summit.
