Sitz Bath here

Sitz Bath (you only submerge your lower buttocks while for Hip bath, you submerge the entire hip. click on image to see Malaysian moms talking about sitz bath

My first attempt : Hip Bath

2 baby bath tub (I dont have access to those fancy basins used specifically for sitz bath)
7 guava leaves and lemon grass (in the Philippines this is used for post partum wash) – boiled in a pot of water
1/4 cup epsom salt
1st baby bath tub – poured half of boiled water with guava leaves and lemon grass then added enough water to fill the tub about 6 – 8 inches
2nd baby bath tub – tap water 6 inches deep
2 liters of ice cold water
I dont have a thermometer– so just used my elbow to gauge the temperature
2 blankets
a timer
Fit For Life book

basically- I just used whatever I have now – instead of waiting till I get all the ideal tools.. better to start with something than none at all

Soaked my bum (water is up to the navel when I sat onto it) on the hot water bath for 30 minutes (slowly pouring the other half of the boiled water into the tub. I was covered by a blanket while doing this.

Its quite relaxing…but never got into reading my book, as I was too busy pouring the boiled water slowly…

After that I poured 2 liters of ice cold water into the other tub.. and dunked my bottom into it and tried to soak for another 6 minutes.

gave myself a sponge bath. watched TV with daughter for anout 20 minutes..

went out to walk dog (slow pace) for 20 minutes).. then walked on grass/gravel for another 20 minutes.

had a nice formed bowel movement just before I retired for bed that night

A few people were quite amused on my account, quoting them

This is cute and gave me a good chuckle.

I actually like the idea of the baby tub for the cool water part of the sitz bath (I don’t have a handheld shower).

OK, CAN’T HELP BUT SMILE, BUT LETS GO ON.
IDEALLY
TAKE A 1 HOUR LONG WARM BATH OR SHOWER OF THE ENTIRE BODY
101 DEGREES MOST IDEAL TEMPT.

THIS HELPS THE BODY LIQUIFY THE THICK LYMPH FLUIDS AND GET THEM CIRCULATING..

THEN YOUR COLD BUM BATH FOR 15 MINUTES AT ABOUT 55 DEGREES COLD IS MOST IDEAL..
THE BOILING WATER PART IS SCARY….AMISH HERE IN AMERICA BURN THEIR CHILDREN WITH BOILING WATER SO MUCH, IT IS UNREAL……DEALING WITH SUCH WATER IS VERY DANGEROUS.

WHAT YOU DID WAS MORE LIKE WHAT THEY CALLED A HIP BATH.

EITHER WAY, YOU IMPROVED CIRCULATION.

BLESSINGS,
MH

Results out of my first hip bath
after a few days, I started expelling mucus via urine and poo. at first, I didnt realize there was a connection with my recent hip bath, I thought it was because I was transitioning to a mucus less, mostly fruit based diet for almost a month now. Then, bingo.. someone pointed it out to me.. its probably a result of the improved diet and the hip bath.. quoting my supporters again..

Mucus is normally produced as a result of too acidic body…so expelling mucus or are you producing mucus would be your issue….real fruit would not cause the body to make mucus.

For uterine fibroids, Yarrow, the great master of the blood, has been an immense help for many women. It has an uncanny ability to alter the tissue environment, so that the fibroids find it hard to continue their growth. Googling yarrow + uterine fibroids should bring up a few ways to accomplish this.

hmmm, makes me remember that Nanay was diagnosed with uterine fibroids last year (though benign). Oncologist said its nothing to be concerned about, as its benign. Surgeon also said the same thing. Of course, I dont believe them.. so tried other ways to address it (initially by using Lugol’s Iodine). However, now I feel that Lugol’s Iodine is not the perfect form of Iodine.. I would rather that we get our Iodine from natural sources.. Also some “alternative practitioners”, prescribe “natural” progesterone cream to dissolve fibroids. But for some reason, I am not at peace with that idea.. so I told Nanay, that I would experiment on the hip bath myself.. and then will help her to do it for 10 consecutive days before her next full abdomen ultrasound. She agreed that it sure sounds like a plan. Will start to help her ease on this treatment this Saturday for about 20 minutes first, until she gets comfortable with it. I also wish I can get my hands on Barefoot Herbalist MH’s natural iodine spray, but he refuse to deliver in Singapore, he says he can only deliver in the US, so sad.. I must be able to source other natural source of iodine from here in Singapore. For the meantime, we will see what the hip bath can do for Nanay.

Mucus threads in the urine are a good sign that lymphatic wastes are being eliminated via the kidneys. A fruit diet and traditional herbs for cleansing the kidneys will accelerate this effect. Good job!

Validates my thoughts! Yehey!! I have some results to make my claim credible enough to encourage Nanay, to do it too..

another way of doing the Hip Bath using Daison Leaves below, I also added my personal thoughts into it.

From: http://www.alchemycalpages.com/pmc96s.html#anchor568343
The Daikon Hip Bath was also discussed because it is also essential for women to do along with the Ginger Compresses. In this case, women do two ginger compresses and two daikon baths a week for sixteen weeks or 32 daikon baths and 32 ginger compresses.

I tried doing a modified Hip Bath using guava leaves and lemon grass (because it is readily available from Nanay’s garden).. last 18th August and also last Sunday (9th Sept). I have’nt tried the Ginger compress yet due to lack of time. I will try to do these ginger compresses and hip bath (not necessarily daikon leaves), 2x a week starting this week and will keep this blog entry updated via the comments.

Instructions.

The dried daikon leaves can be obtained by purchasing them through the mail from Razel Plemmons at Box 895, Arbuckle, CA 95912 for $6.50 a bag. Or, if this proves too much for your pocketbook, you may try to obtain the leaves (also dandelion or turnip greens may substitute for daikon leaves, or arame[in the case of arame about a handful]) from a grocery store that sells daikon. If the daikon are obtained by the store with their leaves attached, they normally cut the leaves off and throw them away. Ask the grocery store manager if this is the case. If it is, then ask to have them save you a bag of leaves-maybe they will charge a nominal sum to do this for you. Then take the leaves home and string them up over a piece of string in your garage or attic or whatever, and let them dry (they must dry in a place away from direct sunlight). They are ready when they are brittle.

The original writer of this quote is based in the USA. In Singapore, I saw daikon leaves on top of organic daikon being sold in the organic session of Giant supermarket. 3 organic daikons with the leaves, costs about $3.75 sgd or about $2 Usd. I will buy some on my pay day, but for now, will just use guava leaves and lemon grass (as again I get them free)…Guave leaves are actually being used in the Philippines as part of a concoction of leaves for post natal treatment for women called “langas”, so its basically like a sitz bath rather than a hip bath in that context. But I use the guava leaves for hip bath instead? Results? I expelled mucus via urine and my poo a few days after my first hip bath. I reckon the guava leaves and lemon grass did help to dissolve the mucus but it took a while to be expelled. Perhaps daikon leaves will work faster than the guava leaves/lemon grass mix, but it can wait till I have more money to spend. :)

Take 4-5 bunches ( a bunch is the leaves which are attached to one root) of the dried leaves or half a packet and place in half a gallon of water. Bring to a boil and let simmer gently for 1/2 hour. Add one handful of any kind of seasalt and stir in thoroughly. Meanwhile run a hot bath until the water level is up to your hip bones when sitting in the bath. Pour the daikon water into the bath through a colander or sieve (discard the cooked daikon leaves).

For my substitution, I have 7 guava leaves and 1 bunch of lemon grass. I didnt dry the leaves though and didnt filter or used a filter to remove the leaves. I just sat on the bath, with the leaves on it. Instead of normal salt I added epsom salt, for the first hip bath, but not on the 2nd hip bath (cant remember where I kept the epsom salt).. no sweat, just make do with what is available.. its better to do something than procrastinate and do nothing…

Get in the bath, sitting up in it, and cover your head and shoulders with a dry bath towel. It is also possible to lie in the daikon bath water up to your neck if you so choose. Remain in the bath, with the water as hot as you can comfortably stand it, for ten-fifteen-twenty minutes.

I didnt wait to have a posh hip bath to do my my hip bath. I just used my daughter’s old baby bath. On both occasions, I stayed in the bath for 30 minutes and kept topping up the bath water with the hot boiling water, to maintain the temperature. Barefoot Herbalist MH, suggested to do it for an hour though for maximum benefit. I guess, I would just sick with the 30 minutes for now. I also added another step to this — I dunked my bottom on ice cold water (the first time) and just on tap water (the second time– cause I was lazy to prepare the ice cold water).. it would be neat if I have a helper for these sessions.. By the way, “dunk”, means you immerse your bottom only for a few seconds..

Get out of the bath, dry yourself off, don nightclothes and a dressing gown and a scarf on your head(and socks on your feet)-the idea is to get well covered to keep the heat in, and go straight to bed (the daikon hip bath should always be done at night before retiring). Do not shower until the morning.

This one it seems I got it right to a T :)

Where Hip Bath and Sitz Bath uses water, the Womb Sauna/(Suob in Tagalog)/Tangas (in Malay) uses steam for the same purposes.

My first attempt on Suob/Tangas/Womb Sauna is here:
http://nanaymiriam.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/suob/

Suob (Filipino set-up)

Tangas (Malay set-up)

Tangas (Malay Post-Natal Therapy set-up)

Womb Sauna (African Amercain set-up)

Does’nt it come so obvious to you too that these ancient herbal water/steam treatments actually work across different cultures and different geographical locations? What happened to us and we lost our connection to this natural healing methods? sigh!!
