Fertile Hope is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reproductive information, support and hope to cancer patients and survivors. Many cancer treatments cause a high risk of infertility. Fertile Hope has announced the first online fertility options calculator for cancer patients and survivors.
When I was in treatment I never really considered the timing of my cancer to be good but I was lucky. I already had children and we had already decided not to have more. The majority of young adult cancer patients are at risk for infertility from cancer treatments and have limited time to learn their risks and act on their options.
To serve this need, Fertile Hope built an educational tool with the psychological needs and the stress of the pressure of time in mind. Available exclusively at www.fertilehope.org, the options calculator allows users to input personal information, access family building options, and act quickly on the information.
Instead of overwhelming patients, users see only what is relevant to their situation. For example, if a woman is a breast cancer survivor who also had her ovaries removed, she doesn’t want have to sort through information about egg freezing or ovarian tissue freezing. The calculator can also be used by oncology healthcare professionals to provide customized information for their patients. read more
