Don Hewitt Pancreatic cancer

Posted Mar 27 2009 10:55am

Joining the club no one wants to belong to, Don Hewitt, the creator of CBS ’s " 60 Minutes," is in Sloan Kettering, fighting pancreatic cancer.

At age 85, Mr. Hewitt may be best known for "60 minutes" but he has a journalistic history his colleagues must envy. He started reporting in 1942 and went on to direct such things as "See It Now" with Edward R Murrow and the famous debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy.

Later in his career he produced such programs as The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth and the installation of Pope John XXIII. Oh, and on the side he had a role in role in CBS News' coverage of every Democratic and Republican National Convention from 1948 to 1980.

Good luck with your fight and welcome to the club, we get it.
