coping with bone pain and queasiness

Posted Aug 28 2009 8:15pm

Hmmm, I thought that bone pain would be something to come along sometime later on my chemo calendar. The last two days, though, I now realize, I have been feeling it already. What’s up with that. I have looked for suggestions for dealing with it; basically, they include usual remedies for pain, particularly anti-inflammatory drugs, like ibuprofen, tricyclic antidepressants that relieve pain in the nerve endings and acupuncture. I’m taking ibuprofen, carefully, of course, because my digestive system rumbles endlessly between episodes of queasiness.

So far, the queasiness comes and goes. That reminds me of another favorite remedy for this: Triple Ginger Snaps from Trader Joe’s. Oh my, they are really yummy, and they really seem to calm down the waves of queasiness. Last time, I kept crystallized ginger handy, and that helped. I keep these at my bedside so I can grab them when I get that empty-stomach queasiness at night or when I wake up. Like this morning. Popped a couple of these when I woke up with that cranky tummy. Laid back down and did some deep breathing, and that helped. I didn’t have to take any meds.

I’m anticipating a good day and am even ready to have some breakfast and get to work.
