When I was a kid all of my friends were of the Catholic faith. In those days the families these kids came from were made up of 5-10 kids. Going over to one of their homes was always an adventure. The O'Malley's (name changed to protect the crazy) had an obstacle course for a home. Mounds of laundry, small children, and toys were always scattered all over the floor, and a visitor always entered at their own risk. Finding first communion gifts for these kids was a tough call, but done with all the love and care of a person in a frenzied state of day before Christmas panic. Of course, then, women and girls still had to wear hats inside The Church. Much was different about the Catholic Church then, as was everything. One thing great about living a long time is being able to look back and see all the changes that have taken place. It's like watching an old movie -black and white, turning to color, rolodexes turning to laptops and dress codes turning to jeans and t-shirts.
Sundays here in my city seem to bring out the nostalgia in me--or maybe it is because it is 80 degrees out and a soft warm breeze is blowing-, my birthday is around the corner- and its all pretty cool.
