what are the impacts and after effects of Brain Infarction to a 21 months old kid?

Posted by lekha

My daughter is a preterm kid born in 32 weeks with low birth weight, 1.8 kgs, through section, due to rupture of placenta and loss of amniotic fluids. she was incubated for 48 hrs and was given surfacent. She also had Jaundice at birth, which was healed in  a week's time after double faced phototherapy.

Dear doc, My daughter now aged 2 yrs and 3 months suffered from slight pneumonitic condition 6 months back and was treated in one of the hospitals in Bangalore for 5 days and was discharged witha n open IV line with the advice to continue injection for next two days. her condition wa stable during discharge. the very next day when she was taken to the same hospital for injection, the IV line was distorted and had to find a fresh line. the baby was taken inside for the same. the baby was crying and not cooperating. after 5 mins the baby stopped crying and there was a hush among the nurses. when i went in i saw my baby was put on oxygen support and there was profuse sweating from her head. she was then shifted to ICU of Ramaiah Memorial Hospital Bangalore for observation as per her pediatrician's advice. baby was more petrified in isolation, but we were unallowed to attend the baby. only in the night i observed my daughter had sulken when i went to breast feed her. but Doctors attributed it to isolation. Next morning when i was again allowed to breast feed i noticed she was not responding and had difficulty staying awake. i reported immediately and specialists again came and requested CT scan. she was diagonised of Mid cerebral infarction and was further asked for MRI. no clot was seen but right brain was deficed of blood and had suffered a major infarction. The kid lost speech, movement of upper and lower limbs and had a facial palsy. she was then treated with aspirin. pneumonia worsened and she was also treated for that. Physiotherapy was initiated. she was discharged from hospital after 16 days after treatment for pneumonia. By 2 months she could stand and walk with support. in another month's time she gained hand control a bit. but now she doesn't respond to our words but responds to music quickly. she has not gained sturdy control on movements yet. she is highly phobic to medicines and doctors. she can just utter a few 2 syllablled words. though i try teaching her alphabets she shows poor intere but at times fills in missing alphabets when i recite. please help me by letting me know how bad can a brain damage affect her skills and how does recovery occur. does she need special schooling and teaching methods? Does it have a effect on her future health. What complications can her illness lead to in future on her health conditions?
