It seems that whenever a person moves into a new house, surprises await! For me, it was the fun experience of finding out I could not turn off the water spigot in my backyard one morning when I had decided to give Betty, my dog, her bath. I had begun to fill up the small plastic pool and wanted to turn the water volume down a little when I realized that the spigot would not turn, or that I did not have the strength to get it to turn.
So, I ran into the house and put on my gardening gloves, hoping that the gloves would give me traction. I also picked up a pair of pliars while I was in there, thinking I might need them to make a hard turn.
As it turned out, neither I or both of my grandsons could get the water off and soon we had water flooding into my driveway. I gave up and ran to get a male neighbor I had met only briefly when I had first moved in. He, very kindly, turned it off- asked the boys why they couldn't have done it- and left.
Tool, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em -oh, maybe that is the wrong noun.
