Those of Us Who Walk With Manic Depressive Illness have Never Walked Alone
When I was first diagnosed with manic depression I wanted to find out all I could about this rollercoaster illness and so I dug deep to find the known symptoms, the ways in which medicines help and hinder, effect on family members and friends. During my journey I found name after name of well-known people who had known the light and dark of this kaliedoscope existence. Here they are---
Patty Duke, Ned Beatty, Maurice Benard (General Hospital' s Sonny) Mariette Hartley, Dick Cavett, Carrie Fisher, Linda Hamilton (of Terminator fame) Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents) Jonathan Winters, Sylvia Plath, Rosemary Clooney, Connie Francis, Charlie Pride, Vincent Van Gogh and Margot Kidder.
I think it is important to realize in the midst of a battle against a deadly illness that some of our world's most well-known people have also met this fight. And some have lost the war. But, it is always crucial to know that we are not alone and that health begins when we reach for help.
