The Time of My Life (This Weekend Anyway!) by Judy Hensley

Posted Sep 30 2008 1:45am
You’ve probably heard the expression “enjoy life’s simple pleasures”? Well I did for an hour this weekend, and it may sound quite unusual to you, but my life is like that anymore–unusual, or at least, I think so.

My husband, I, my daughter and one of her friends,d had taken a couple of days and decided to head down the road to Pigeon Forge and spend the night and go to Dollywood on Saturday. The weather was not looking the best but it turned out to be a great day for fun without blazing sun at the amusement/entertainment park. I had already warned my family that with my head/chest cold that I had and the uncertainty of how well my Parkinson’s medicines’ would hold out, I didn’t know how long I would make it on Saturday. I did pretty well actually, but by the time 5 pm came I was ready to go.

I know I’m dragging you along to my ’time of my life this weekend’ but I just keep thinking of things that happened and want to share them. (I think real writes call this building anticipation..wooooo, you’re impressed, I know, lol)

When we got there Friday evening we shopped some. Now normally this event is usually classifed as a best time in life, for me, and it was good–even if I didn’t buy that wild looking pair of tennis shoes (a weakness of mine). Now I used to be able to keep up with the best of the ’Big Dogs’ a shoppin’ but not anymore, but it was still a good time.

The next day we headed to Dollywood. At the park, one of my favorite rides is a good roller coaster. I rode one of the coasters at Dollywood that I had not ever ridden before, the Mystery Mine, and it was OK. But the Tennessee Tornado with its loops and drops is my favorite. You probably know how all these wild rides now offer some kind of picture of you at the most climatic point in the ride, available to purchase after you hop off the ride. This ride offers a video of your ride. This was very appealing to me because my husband is so funny on a coaster ride. He holds his breath and has his cheeks puffed out really big in all the pictures we have ever had on a roller coaster. He says he does this to keep from passing out….lol!

Well, we road the Tennessee Tornado once and Bill and I went together. The picture of us turned out just like normal…Bill had his cheeks puffed out with a big gulp of air and his eyes closed (you might even think he looks like he is getting ready to barf, but we’ll not dwell on that). As soon as we got off and looked at the pics and videos of that ride, I told my daughter, who is almost 15, “I want to ride this with you and have a pic or video of it!”

Now my daughter loves roller coasters and in every pic of her on one she is never looks scared, but always has her mouth wide open and a big smile on her face. I tend to either laugh all the way on the ride or scream my head off, so I knew the video would be priceless of me and her. It was. We bought 3 different videos…mostly to laugh at my husband in two of them and to keep the one of me and my daughter. Who knows I may have to put it on You Tube! That was almost the “time of my life” that weekend.

What clinched the “time of my life” this weekend was stopping at a BIG DOGS clothing shop on the way home. First the store had everything 50% off (shoppers like me on Mirapex ‘gotta stop!) and they have all kinds of clothing & accessories (mostly tshirts) with these entertaining sayings about attitudes along with a picture of the Big Dog (the Newfoundland with his tongue handing out).

When I got out of the car to go in, I told my husband I would be just a few minutes that I was going to pick up a couple of tshirts for some family/friends. What it turned into was an hour reading, deciding, and laughing at which tshirt would be perfect for certain people. You would have had to have been there! My daughter would read a shirt, and say “Hey mom, this one sounds just like so-and-so!” Her friend was on the cell phone to another friend reading off the funny sayings to them on the phone. It was a hard decision on some of the shirts but I think we bought a total of 7 tshirts…no, make that 9 (after we got in the car and showed Bill, he had to go in a get a couple for friends, too!)

Here are a few of the ones we got…I hope their intended recipients will like them:

“I’d like to help you, but I just can’t fix ’stupid’!” that one’s for my sister.

“When Momma ain’t happy, ain’t Nobody happy!” I think all us moms can relate to that one–and our families too!!

“I get enough exercise just pushing my luck!” for a friend who shall remain nameless.

“Do I look like a ‘freakin’ people person?” had gotten this one for my brother-in-law and have someone else

in mind for it this time.

“genuine attitude sportswear’ for my nephew..it just looked kinda cool.

“Lead, follow, or get outta the way” a little car sticker for a friend.

“I AM the BIG DOG!” Bill got for one of his coworkers who is 6’7”!

Judy's Big Dog

I could not decide between two of my favs for me, so I just decided not to buy another tshirt for myself. The two sayings were “I don’t have an attitude, I’m just RIGHT” and “If I agreed with you, we would both be
WRONG!”

Now hopefully another ‘time of my life’ will be seeing the look on all the faces of people I give the shirts too!

You know I’ll probably have my camera in hand to
capture! Lol.

I hope you have a “time of your life” sometime soon!

Judy
