Me and Dylan at the Anthill movie premiere during the Sea Otter Classic
Last month, six of us (2 adults and four kids) piled into the van and made the trek from Tahoe to Monterey, CA for the annual Sea Otter Classic mountain bike event. The ultimate guys weekend... When we arrived, we were surprised to learn that it was summer there. Werent we just snowboarding a few days ago back home? With temps well into the 80s, the boys were in for a challenging couple days competing in the junior races.
My son Dylan had a great time in the dual slalom event--he crashed while going neck and neck with his opponent, but dusted himself off and finished strong--making finals despite the fall. Later in the weekend Dylan competed in the junior downhill race and finished well, 19 out of 43 riders--not too bad for his first race. The kids all agreed the downhill course was one of the raddest theyd ridden while the dual slalom was one of the most fun events they had ever done.
This event was a great experience for the kids overall and there was so much for them to see and do. They had the time of their lives riding around the festival, meeting the pros, hitting the giant jump onto an airbag, racing downhill and dual slalom, visiting our friends at The North Face booth, attending a world premiere of the new Anthill movie, and of course, collecting swag from all the vendors. With all the free sunblock the boys collected, perhaps well remember to put some on next year! The North Face booth at the Sea Otter Classic Sweet espresso delivery on bike
