I did some research last night and it is going to take several years and a lot of money, but I still want to do it. My first step is money. I worked on a movie several years ago with an actor who a couple years later was diagnosed with a brain tumor, maybe I can get him or some other actor to help! I will also need to get a lawyer to help with all the legal stuff, like incorporation, and I'll need to file papers with the IRS to try to get non profit tax exempt status so that our benefactors will be able to use their donations as tax deductions. Lots of prep work, but I do have many years to do it, thats how long it will take to raise the money just to get it started. I will also need someone to help run it, not sure I would be the best person in charge! I also need a name for it (taking suggestions!) I did read about hooking up with another charity and just be like a subsidiary, which would take a lot of pressure off me, and give me more freedom as well. Who knows, like I said many years in the future, but I really want to do it. I know there are foundations, like the American Brain Tumor Association and the National Brain Tumor Foundation, but they focus mainly on research. Mine would solely be to help patients financially, people that can't get help from anyone else.
Tomorrow I will find out if I have permanent nerve damage in my leg. I should have gotten the report of the last test from my old neuro doc because I remember him telling me there was some nerve damage and I need to know if this test is different. And even though the last test said there was damage it was before I had surgery and I had complete control over my foot and leg, I just had some tingling. I will call tomorrow and ask the doc's office to send the results to the new neuro doc. I have also made a list of everything else I want to talk to the doc about. Every time I go I forget what I need to ask so this time I wrote it all down.
