Now, Take a Deep Breath ----AAAAHHHH!!!

Posted Oct 30 2008 3:24pm

A day after my brain surgery, I was still in the ICU - with that weird breathing apparatus in my nose, sucking in oxygen.

I started to wheeze, and I told the nurse about it. He completely ignored me, and went about his business. Later in the day, I told my sister it wasn't getting any better and she told the nurse, who sent in a respiratory therapist who gave me a breathing treatment.

She informed me that I was not a "deep breather" and that was the problem. "Take deep breaths" she smiled. I grimaced. Later, they took me down for another X-ray,-while on the way, the "breathing tube" fell out. After awhile I stopped wheezing.

I learned later I really didn't need to have the breathing tube in my nose all that time and it was causing my wheezing.

Fitness Tip of the Day!

Breathe. One of the first things you can do to improve your health, both physically and mentally, is to become aware of your in-breath and your out-breath.

Note to Dr. John: This wasn't supposed to be funny.;-)
