National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month

Posted Sep 01 2011 11:33am
No matter WHERE you are , (working, at school, traveling ,etc...) something as simple as a Light Blue ribbon is being a part of this special month.

2 summers ago , Congress confirmed that September is National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month. Hydrocephalus ,AKA water on the brain , is a brain condition that affects 1 of every 500 infants (and some are even diagnosed later in life ) Hydrocephalus is a... build up of fluid in the brain. Without treatment, Hydrocephalus is usually fatal.

Since treatment was invented in the 50's very few improvements have been made and the Hydrocephalic/person with Hydrocephalus usually still ends up on the operating table just as often. Currently, in 3rd world countries, Hydrocephalus is STILL a death sentence because treatment isn't available .Many with Hydrocephalus also have other disabilities because of this condition.
Although this illness affects many around the world, the public is unaware. During September, we hope to reach out and spread the word in hopes one day there may be a cure.

During September , please help many who suffer from this condition by wearing Light Blue throughout the month and spreading the word. You may never know, someone you know could have Hydrocephalus ... and you didn't even know it!

We are currently working on enamel Light Blue Ribbon Awareness pins!!!! Stay tuned!! :)
