A Parkinson’s patient’s worthy effort to help provide Computers to Movement Disorder patients.
We would like to share with you this service Don provides through a foundation established to help those with movement disorders to obtain computers to help them in their everyday life…
Don Djlee Lee’s PC4PPLWMD–PC’s for People with Movement Disorders
PC4PPLWMD is a foundation whose sole purpose is to give computers to people with movement disorders that are on fixed or low incomes who otherwise could not afford them. We solely rely on the generosity of local and non local businesses and individual donations from the public. PC4PPLWMD was created to help people with movement disorders stay on top of any new information about the disease that is controlling their lives by giving them access to the internet so they can do research, join web forums, and meet others who are like them and know what they are going though.
We started this foundation after doing some research and finding out that there really is not any like it around. We started our mission by contacting several large corporations and inquiring about what they did with their old computers when they go through a company upgrade. We found out that most of the companies we had contacted donate to one large foundation in return for a very nice tax write off. That foundation then redistributes the equipment to other tax free charities such as schools, churches, libraries, and support groups who are in need of the equipment. Then they received a tax write off themselves that helped support the foundation.
Brilliant idea except for one thing, people like you and I are ineligible to receive any of the needed equipment because we do not have a tax free status. We found most of this out while working with several very large corporations, trying to get them to donate one of their old laptops to because our very old laptop had literally broke in half and we needed one in a very bad way.
So this is where PC4PPLWMD came about. We had been in the retail world for many years and had made some great friends and several good contacts. We first of all contacted several close friends and ran our ideas past them and sat back and listened to what they had to say. Surprisingly it was all positive and everyone encouraged us to move forward, so we did. Now we had this great plan where do we get the products and how do we pay for it? This is where our friends and contacts come in. This was the easiest part honestly, all we had to do is make a few phone calls and explain what we wanted to do and the products started pouring in. The best thing about it is that for every 1 contact we had they connected me with 3 or 4 more people, so it keeps on growing. We now ship all over the United States everything from laptops to complete computer systems.
