On Sunday I visited my daughter and grandsons and found that she had tilled a plot out for her garden. I could just see my grandsons out there digging away. And, I remembered my father, who died a little over a year ago crabbing about how much he hated gardening and wished he never had to pull weeds again.
This was because when he was young gardens were not something people did because they were trying to be environmentally responsible or healthier. It was something people did because they wanted to save money. And so for many it was just another chore.
