Is OverPopulation the Source of OUR Challenges on Planet EArth?

Many years ago I read a book titled Megatrends
One of the author's main themes was that our biggest challenge in the 21st century would be the problem of overpopulation.
Frankly, looking at the world today, I must state that he might have been right. For example, if there were fewer people we would probably have a smaller oil demand, would not need to fill up so many cars, and would be able to buy food at other stores, besides Walmart.
Here are a couple of sage pieces of advice on this subject that have been passed down through the ages.
1) Contraceptives should be used on every conceivable occasion. -- Spike Milligan
2) The command 'Be fruitful and multiply' was promulgated according to our authorities, when the population of the world consisted of two persons. -- W R Inge, 1860-1954
