When Waynedale Green Alliance decided to put on their own green festival we scurried around seeking models. We wanted to accomplish a lot with the festival. We wanted to bring in food for Community Harvest of Northeast Indiana. We wanted to represent green vendors and organizations in the community -and We wanted to celebrate Earth Day.
Our models were festivals that had been held in San Diego, (700,000 in attendance) Seattle- and Chicago- (last year 35,000 in attendance).
Of course we didn't come close to that. First of all, Fort Wayne is a city of a little over half a million-not close to the populations of these world renowned cities. Fort Wayne also has learning curve it has yet to scale when it comes to sustainability issues. Many have not yet found the connection between economic vitality and environmental elevation.
The Chicago Green Festival was just last weekend and I have yet to get any reports on attendance.
