To me, diamond rings are not just a symbol of love and committment.
They are a statement.
Why do you think great stars of stage and screen sing about them?
I believe it is because when most people think of a diamond they equate the stone with wealth and class- a step beyond the realm of the everyday.
One of my fondest memories is ole' Marilyn Monroe singing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend!" And one of my biggest laughs in memory is Madonna trying to act as if she was even a close facsimile to the Golden Goddess of the 1950's.
You know, when I see people like Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan discussed and raved about as if they were great stars and interesting people my theory that the end of the true star has come.
These people are nothing compared to those who added real class and style to an era that is sadly past.
