Comfort In the All-Consuming

Posted Oct 27 2013 2:00am

Sometimes,

this thing called Parkinson's disease

can feel like deep waters

pulling us down

swallowimg us up.

Sometimes,

this illness –

any illness –

can feel like a rushing river,

one rapid colliding with another,

flipping us over

to tumble and be tangled amongst

boudlers and debris,

leaving us for dead.

Sometimes,

this illness, our illness,

feels as if we are walking through fire,

set ablaze by pain

scorched, scarred, and burned.

But God – what does He say

to that which feels all consuming?

When you pass through those waters,

I will be with you.

When you pass through those rivers,

they will not sweep over you.

And when you walk through that fire,

you will not be burned.

For I am the Lord, your God… your Savior.

You are precious in my sight

and because I love you –

you need not be afraid,

for I am with you.

That's what He says.
