A note to Verna

Verna,
I got your comment and question about Joshua's hats and where I got them. I can't track down where you commented, and thus can't follow you to your blog. Sorry about that.

I made all Joshua's hats. They are more like treasure bags. They were crocheted and knit (the best one was crocheted). I made a normal 3-6 month hat pattern and then carried down longer than the average hat (much longer, almost 2x a long). I made one for Elijah Douglas (sidebar) and that was similar size to Joshua's. It was wasn't big enough for him, so keep that in mind for how big it needs to be. I then threaded a crocheted chain through to make a drawstring bag. I tightened his around the area between the skull and the encephaloce. I couldn't keep his hats up on his head. Another thing I did (when it was smaller) was put the chain further back into the hat, so part of the brim actually sat on his skull, looking more like a hat. If you look at some of his pictures while his cele was broken, you can see what I was talking about.

I hope that's helpful.
