What do I need to prevent the excessive pain of my first phlebotomy, the worst part being as the needle was removed?

I supposedly suffer from eosinophilia, basophilia and mild thrombocytopenia (per lab work) and have been started on a program of phlebotomy and desferal administration through an IV.
