Hi!
Medication is a learning process and very unique to the individual. While it helps to learn others experience, remember that each experience is as unique as the mind itself and may not be the same for you.
I have been on Seroquel for years. Not your combination and a much much higher dose. It does more than help me sleep. It lasts throughout the next day helping to stabilize my moods. Like I said, everyone is different; some people would never wake up in the morning on the amount of Seroquel I take.
Make sure you monitor your moods closely and discuss the effects with your doctor. It may take some time, but Bipolar Disorder is very treatable.
Best of luck to you.
Hi unquiet,
I have been taking Seroquel for at least six months now and at first all I really noticed was it was making me sleep better. I started on 25mg a day and now I take 200mg in the morning and 250mg at night. It still helps me sleep but like mom interrupted said it also helps keep my moods more stable through the day as well. I was prescribed it because I was hearing voices which is a symptom of psychosis and Seroquel has made that stop; but I have found that every so often I feel the need to ask the psychiatrist to increase my dose slightly. You get to know what is working for you and what isn't.
Some doctors don't like to prescribe an anti-depressant for people with Bipolar as it can induce mania. However I have never found that to be the case for me and have been taking Celexa (citalopram) for several years now. I feel I am on a good set of meds just now - Lamictal and Seroquel both help keep my moods stable and the Celexa helps with general anxiety and panic.
The only side effects I have noticed is increased drowsiness when I've had a Seroquel increase, some weight gain and a dry mouth. But the sleepy side effect of it has always passed very quickly hence why my dose has gone from 25mg to 450mg in around 6 months. It takes some time to come to terms with suddenly having this label/diagnosis made about you but the more you learn both about the disorder and how it affects you as an individual the more manageable it can be.
All the best and take care :)

Hi everyone - in the last month I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. My doctor started me on 25mg of Seroquel. Initially I loved it because I could finally sleep for once, and I felt drowsy enough in the morning to not race out of bed first thing.
The problem was that I was still having very depressed swings, so she added me on 10mg of Lexapro and increased my Seroquel to 50mg. Now I don't feel nearly as depressed, but I still think I'm manic. I'm still learning the terminology and how it applies to me - I never saw myself as being manic, but the more I read about it, the more it makes sense to me. I just never understood how one week I could be so energetic and accomplished and then a week later I couldn't get out of bed. I always figured it was just depression.
Have any of you been on this combination and what was your experience with it? I feel like Seroquel doesn't do anything at all except help me sleep. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do exactly. I know by Wednesday I always feel very fatigued, but I don't know what's causing that.
Any information would be great!
