Lithium Lessons Learned

Posted Mar 18 2009 3:35pm

Hello.

So the girlfriend bought a book about bipolar that amongst other things extols the virtues of lithium as being a wonderful mood-stabiliser and one of only two drugs to lower the incidence of suicide.  She now without fail at 10 each night reminds me to take the hellish salt.  Now not wanting to piss on her parade, or the books, I pointed her to Kay R Jamison’s rules for graciously accepting lithium into your life.  See here.

I got the following email in return from her, slightly edited.

“1. Clear out the medicine cabinet before guests come for dinner or new lovers stay the night.”
Wouldn’t be a good idea with me, were it not there then I would have questions.  Or rather the one question - what are you thinking

“11. Be appreciative. Don’t even consider stopping your lithium.”
Damn straight!

That is all.
