Is there any bipolar person here who experienced manic/depressive episode only once?

Posted by stardustlight

I have noticed that most bipolars in this community have experienced recurring episode of mania/depression and it worries me. I am under the impression that there is little hope for this illness. I don't want another manic/depressive episode to repeat again. Please share. thanks!

Hi Stardust,

Bipolar disorder can be very well managed with a mix of medication and talking therapies. I was diagnosed in February 2009 and at that time I was regularly having recurrent episodes of depression and mania. Soon after my diagnosis I started on a mood stabiliser called Lamictal and I haven't had another manic episode since. I still continue to have problems with bipolar depression but taking both seroquel and an anti-depressant celexa help me to tolerate those episodes better. Personally I find that having a professional who I trust and can talk to is one of the best ways to feel better and to receive some inspiration from. Remember you are not bipolar, you are you who happens to have bipolar.

Take care and all the best :)

I have bipolar disorder, and after many different medication trials I am now stable. Haven't had a manic episode in so long I can't remember when the last one was. I did have problems with depression, but a change in medication and lifestyle really made the depression disappear.
