How do i go about tapering off risperidone?

Posted by paperheartmummy

I was recently hospitalized under the assumption i was bi polar, i was placed on 1.5 mg of risperadone at night  and have been diagnosed as not bipolar, but borderline. The side effects have been intense and frequent. I would like to get off this medication as seeing no need for it. How do i go about this safely?

first reduce from 1.5mg to 1mg in 0ne week, then one week from 1mg to 0.5mg and one week from 0.5mg to zero.
this is if you want to taper quickly otherwise spend two weeks at each dosage.

I'm glad you know how important it is to taper off - but my recommendation is to talk to the doc who prescribed it to you, or at the very least the pharmacist who dispensed.  Also do some research via google so you will know the side effects from withdrawal so that you are not surprised by anything that may happen.

Wishing you well!
