In today'sLA Times, Ira Rosofky defends rationing under the proposed Obama plan:"[H]ealthcare rationing is already as American as apple pie. We ration healthcare based on the ability to pay . . . more than 22,000 Americans died because they lacked medical insurance . . . ." "[P]erhaps 22,000 people would live each year because some others did not live one year longer. This is not to mention the pain and suffering and the reduced quality of life from a treatment that marginally prolongs life. I might well choose to be put on the ice floe." |
