But oh no! There’s supposed to be a dance in Mystic Falls! Bonnie is helping blow up balloons until Kol threatens her and then her power blows all the balloons up and pushes Kol away. Plus she’s upset that her dad, the new mayor, put vervain in the water and it’s hurting all her vampire friends. Damon is recovering from being bled out. Now Stefan is with Rebekah.
Elena calls Kol and says she wants a truce in the name of Silas. She tells him to come on over.
Rebekah tells Stefan he’s not getting the dagger even if he’s sleeping with her. Rebekah is getting ready for the high school dance, because it’s all 80s. Klaus says Damon needed to let Jeremy kill all the vampires. Damon says Klaus feels guilty for killing Carole and that Caroline isn’t going to forgive him. He tells Klaus that if he’s going to be bad, to be bad with a purpose. Jeremy heads to Bonnie’s because he wants her to help with Kol. He needs the dagger. But Bonnie’s dad is holding her hostage. Bonnie tries to rush out the door by then Abby – Bonnie’s mom suddenly shows up.
Jeremy goes to stab her because Abby is a vampire, but Bonnie stops him.
Elena buys time with Kol by talking about Silas. Kol is crazy.
Back at the canceled dance, Stefan says there were some good things about the 80s–”Say Anything” and “Princess Bride” in particular. And then they dance to the Cure’s “Lovesong.”
Kol leaves and then comes back and decides to attack Elena and Jeremy. Bonnie and Abby are fighting about magic. Bonnie says they’ve found a cure and if she finds it, she can save her mom. Then her mom knocks her daughter unconscious. But Bonnie escapes.
Remember that Damon is still compelled to kill Jeremy. Klaus is goading Damon about loving Elena and says there won’t be a fairytale ending once a cure happens.
Stefan and Rebekah are now drinking to Bon Jovi and Stefan is remembering his friend Lexi and how he was a better person with her.
Elena and Kol and Jeremy are fighting and Jeremy falls down the stairs and Kol sticks a banister railing into Elena. Charming!
Rebekah just gives Stefan the dagger. She says she does want someone to stand outside of her window with a boom box, because Lloyd Dobbler has ruined men for everyone, even original vampires. And they walk out of the prom to “If you were here, I could deceive you,” which I believe is from “16 Candles,” not “Breakfast Club,” which is the movie they were talking about.
Back at Elena’s, she’s freed herself from the banister as Kol is about to rip off Jeremy’s arms. They shoot him with vervain water and then Jeremy stakes Kol. Unfortunately, Klaus shows up right there and then. He’s not happy. Klaus says he wanted Kol to die on his terms and then if he’d gotten the cure, he would have killed them all anyway.
Bonnie shows up and it turns out, she’s quite the witch and creates a wall to block him. While they’re waiting for the tattoos to grow, Damon and Stefan show up. Stefan brings the headstone. Elena doesn’t think they should trust Rebekah. Then Stefan and Damon are about to get into a fight when Jeremy rips off his shirt to reveal the growing map.
