Yes, it’s cold in Austin but at least we don’t need a bike snow plow

It’s cold. It’s frickin’ cold alright. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still ride your bike, right?
Fair weather friends, indeed we can if we follow a few guidelines in bundling up as laid out by Streetfilms :
Last week I joked on Twitter that I didn’t need this video because I lived in Austin. Well, turns out I needed it today. I had to take back the Christiania box bike I was reviewing to Austin Bikes. I smartly put on long underwear and used a long scarf to keep my cheeks and nose warm. The best advise I got from the video was the use of wrap around glasses. The wind was drying/freezing my eyeballs and my cycling glasses were a saver. I stayed relatively toasty with one exception: socks. Without thinking, I put on some thin dress socks, and by the time I got home I had toe-cicles!
At least we don’t have to worry about snow plows filling up the bike lane with mounds of snow like they do in Toronto . Otherwise we’d need one of these bad boys!
Of course in more civilized counties, citizens do not have to resort to DIY lawn mower conversions:
