Winter commuting bike is ready to roll.

Posted Dec 06 2009 6:46pm
I'm still resting up from my cold, so no riding for me this weekend. Between last Sunday and today, I've got the Cross Check ready for winter. And just in time. The weather forecast started showing a Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday and Wednesday. Yeah for snow!! Finally winter is arriving.

The list of changes for the Cross Check include the following:

-Both studded tires are now on.
-New Kool Stop salmon colored pads on the rear brake.
-New front wheel
-New chain
-Freshly lubed Shimano Nexus 8-speed Internally Geared Hub
-New pedals, one side is platform, one side is SPD clipless. Choices and options depending on conditions and weather.
-New front fender mudflap:
I have Planet Bike Cascadia Fenders on this bike. I love them. But the bumpy roads the past two winters caused a lot of flapping back of forth of these fenders causing the fender to rub on the studded tires.
It wore away the corner of the mudflap. I thought I'd have to buy new fenders until I discovered Planet Bike sells replacement mudflaps on their website for $5, with free shipping. What a deal.
Looks like new, except where I scratched up the fender with the hacksaw I used to cut the old rivets off.

Bring on the snow. I'm ready to roll!
