Last Friday, Austin cyclist Robert Trent had his 2008 Specialized Tricross Sport, his primary form of transportation, stolen on the UT campus while he was at lunch. What makes this theft unlike the hundred of other bike thefts that happen every year around UT is that the thief was actually caught on UTPD video in the act.
These pictures from the surveillance camera show the thief on his way to and riding away with the stolen bike.
Unfortunately although the thief was recorded, he has yet to be caught or the bike recovered. The bike was a Specialized Tricross Sport with a rack on the back. If you see this bike or have any leads in this theft, please contact the UT Police Department at (512) 471-4441. Having your bike stolen always sucks, but this was Robert’s main mode of transportation. He could really use your help.
The Specialized Tricross Sport. Robert's included a rear rack.

Robert indicated that the bike was locked with a cable lock, not a U-lock. Check out our article on locking your bike for tips on how to avoid this happening to you.
