In the Urban Living Rides, we have been seeking to create unique, all inclusive rides that would help you rediscover the city and find real joy in riding. While there are some great social rides in Austin, we have been presenting rides with a level of service and care unlike any other in town. Like the ride series we did last year, pretty much everyone who went on our rides this year told us in their feedback forms that they had a blast and wanted us to do more rides.
I can personally say it has been a real joy guiding you around our beautiful town, helping you discover new local business, and hopefully leading you to rediscover the simple pleasures of riding with friends. It has been great to see the diversity of riders, and I take pride that at least one rider on each of our rides has reported that we had gotten them back on a bike after at least a year off the saddle.
I also want to thank Austin Java for hosting many of our rides, and Gazelle Cycle USA for partnering with us to bring some really great Dutch bikes to Austin for people to ride. Finally, I want to thank my very professional staff: Keith Byrd, Rick Burrow, Sara Deshong, Ian Fitch-Hurder, Noni Jarnagin, Ric Reyes, Ana Riley, and Ricardo Treviño. These guys did an excellent job, and I would be proud to work with them again.
Why we are ending the series
The riders had fun and our sponsors and staff were great, but unfortunately our ride attendance was down from last year’s rides. While we’d love to keep doing the rides, the rides are not sustainable for us with the current attendance. This is why we made the hard decision to end the series early.
Finishing the series
We will still be finishing out the series with our April rides, and we hope to see you on these rides on April 23 and 30. These rides are representative of what our rides are about, so if you’ve been meaning to make one of the rides, please join us! All food and drink, bike valet, and bike guides will be included as always, and we’ll have bike rentals available in case you or a friend need a bike. You’ll receive a massive coupon book at the end of the ride with discounts at local businesses, and you’ll be entered into a drawing in May for Gazelle Basic 5 Speed Dutch bike .
We’ll also be having a sale on our Dutch bike rental fleet and accessories in May with serving of bikes continuing through Violet Crown Cycles . Look for more info on that in the coming days.
