Jeff invited me to watch him race in his first mountain race this weekend. It was a bit early for me, but I made the effort to get out for it. This may be hard to imagine, this was the first time I have ever seen a mountain bike race (not including snowbike racing). I made it over to Lester Park 30 minutes before the 9:30 start time for Jeff's Citizen Class race. Amazing. The race was part of the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series and called the Great Hawk Chase . I was able to watch the race with Boz who was there to watch and take some photos.
I rode over on the LHT. I really wanted to take the Ellis, but I was running late and the LHT was ready to go and the Ellis wasn't.
Here's Jeff's wave leaving the start line......
...and a minute or so later, there goes Jeff. Oops, he missed his wave.
Boz and I hiked up the trails a bit to catch the riders and their return to the start/finish. Nice scenery along the way.
This year's race used some of the new single track built last year.
Jeff recovered from his late start with a podium finish of third place in his age group. Way to go Jeff in your first Mtn bike race.
I would have liked to have stayed and watched the Elite racers. But Susan and I had planned to go and do some volunteer work at the Hillside Community Orchard . No pictures from that. Sorry. I was busy pulling weeds.
