I realized today I only have few weeks before I do my next bike camping trip. I need to start planning my route.
Susan and I are doing a weekend getaway with my parents in Spring Green, Wi (Staying this time in Madison). This has become a yearly event. We've been doing it for the past 14 years.
Starting last year, I decided to try and use at least one of my hard earned three weeks of vacation time pedaling a bicycle. The above picture is from last years week long bicycle vacation. I decided to try a solo vacation this year (mainly due to the lack of invitations to join others). The plan. Take my bike and gear along to Madison. Enjoy the weekend with Susan and parents. Say good-bye to them on Monday and pedal home. Distance from Madison to Duluth? About 350-380 miles depending on my route selection. A nice distance for the 6-7 days I have available to do it in.
My question to any readers out there that have any knowledge of this area of Wisconsin. I'm looking for any route recommendations? I'll be trying to camp each night. I think that is the biggest area of concern for me. With my lack of experience at long distance touring, I'd like to get more comfortable knowing I can find places to sleep each night. I've driven the Interstate corridor between Chicago, Madison and the Twin Cities many times a year over the past 25 years. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the countryside away from the interstates.
