Pink: a (love) courier service is back in Austin this April

Posted Mar 24 2009 4:23pm

Bike messengers speeding across town to deliver a message… of love? That’s Jaclyn Pryor ’s “pink: a (love) courier service,” an art project that started in Austin in 2006, has traveled since then to Portland, Oregon and Chicago and is now coming back to Austin next month.

As Jaclyn describes the project:

PINK is both a real-life courier service & an interactive, site-specific art installation. During Art City Austin, visitors are invited to visit PINK’s temporary love factory set up along Austin’s City Hall plaza, where they can type a love note to someone in Austin. Notes are bottled on site by PINK’s love factory workers & delivered by bicycle by PINK’s love couriers anywhere in the city.

Factory locations have included Austin, Texas; Portland, Oregon; & Chicago, Illinois. Because PINK celebrates not only human connectivity but human power, the PINK factory is powered entirely by human & bicycle-generated energy!

NBC Channel 5 in Chicago wrote of pink, “You absolutely must go because it’ll brighten your day and the day of someone you “Pink”. It’s a courier service delivering your love notes in a bottle. This is not a business so really they do this out of love for their project. They don’t define love for you; no cliche’ cards, no “hearts and flowers” or things that will taint your experience. The experience is one that is not only fun, it is strangely simple and it’s almost confusing (except for typing on a manual typewriter, which was actually cool). Who needs email and text messages for love notes anyway?”

Now that Pink is returning to Austin, they need you! Volunteer cyclists are needed to deliver love notes! Email pinkontour@gmail.com with your name and contact info; put “volunteer cyclist” in the subject heading. ?If you aren’t going to play “love messenger,” come to the Love Factory during Art City Austin & write love notes to your friends, family, co-workers, and strangers.

Pink will be located at City Hall from April 24-26.
Hours will be Friday 1-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Sunday 11a.m.-6 p.m.

Pink is Created By: Jaclyn Pryor, in collaboration with Michael Caldwell, Andrew Danziger, Sachi De Cou/Austin Bike Zoo, Beth Ferguson/Metamorphosis Arte, Matt Hislope, Roz Mandola, Josh Meyer, Audrey Sansom, & Dustin Wills.
