Gorgeous sunrise over Duluth and Lake Superior this morning. It didn't last long. Twenty minutes later it started snowing. Light snow continued all day. So light, it only mounted to 1-2 inches. We seem to be getting all our snow one or two inches at a time. It did this on Tuesday, and another small storm is supposed to come through tomorrow. Temps were in the teens all day.
The Surly after sitting outside all day. Even though I haven't gotten the belt drive to work, I'm loving this new bike. It's a great winter commuter, even without the belt, same as my last Cross Check .
This is what two inches of salted and sanded snow looks like. It's nasty, component eating slop.
I heard this guy coming up fast behind me. I baled to the other side of the road....
....for a photo-op.
Some more of what my commute looks like. Notice the lack of cars. That's what allows me to keep such a perfect streak going of riding every single day. Low traffic routes.
Massive, and I mean MASSIVE, amounts of salt will keep a road clear of freshly fallen snow at 19F (-7C). Back down to my neighborhood in West Duluth. This road is more heavily traveled. Somehow I managed to ride it when a large gap between cars was occurring. Something that never happens this time of day.
Another interesting day of bicycle commuting in Minnesota.
