LOBV calls on support for continuous bike path along MoPac
Posted Dec 13 2010 9:58am
The MoPac Improvement Project is working on ways to improve traffic along this heavy used corridor, and the League of Bicycling Voters is suggesting a continuous bike path from Parmer Lane to Lady Bird Lake would make a measurable impact. The LOBV is asking for your help in contacting members of the project working group to call for this improvement.
The LOBV is calling for the following bicycle and pedestrian accommodations:
A contiguous, non-stop, off-street bicycle path and pedestrian path from Parmer Lane to Lady Bird Lake along the MoPac corridor.
Complete and improved bicycle and pedestrian connectivity for all crossings of MoPac along the corridor.
Improvement of the Johnson Creek Trail system, including connections to all trails and urban streets at the Cesar Chavez Street Interchange.
Note that on the MoPac Improvement Project web site, there is currently no mention of bicycle infrastructure and all improvements suggested are targeted directly at automotive traffic. It’s understandable that much of the of the focus would be on cars, but it seems extremely short sighted and out of step with the stated goals of multi-modal transportation that there is no mention of bicycle or pedestrian accommodations.
Please visit the LOBV site for more contact information and copy guidance in showing your support for this option.
