This is a common thing to happen to a lot of riders. In some cases padded gloves will, indeed, do the trick, but take care to ensure your bike is fit properly by a specialized bike shop. Buying a bike off the rack at a sporting goods store or discount store won't afford you the opportunity to be properly fit. Fit is EVERYTHING.
For me, I have a tendancing to kink my wrists or grip very tight when I'm pushing hard. I have to concentrate on keeping my wrists slightly rounded so as to not bend at the wrist, the same principle you would follow form-wise if you were doing a bicep curl with dumbbells.
Change positions often while riding. I find that moving my hands closer together on the handlebars gives me relief, but no matter I always have to adjust here and there.
Padded gloves are great for some, but if the pads are too bulky they can have an adverse effect, such as in my experience.
Seat and handle bar position are the primary focus first. If you know that all that is right, then start changing things up.
Good luck in finding your comfort level!
