On January 18, Austin Ridge Riders member Michael McMurtray (aka: Calvinsbike on BikeMojo.com) took a terrible fall on the Pfluger Hike and Bike Trail and was transported to the ICU at St. David’s Round Rock. In the fall, Michael suffered a cracked skull, broken scapula, vertebrae (3), ribs (3), nose and multiple facial fractures. He will need surgery on his face and nose. Luckily, he was riding with friends who were able to get him help quickly.
While it appears he will recover, Michael, like a 1/4th of Texans is without health insurance. The medical bills are expected to be high, and the Austin Ridge Riders and BikeMojo communities are banding together to raise funds to help with these expenses. A site called Help Michael Recover has been launched where you can make a donation via PayPal (PayPal account not required to donate via their system.) The is also some sort of fundraising event being discussed to be hosted by Hammerhead Bikes.
