In addition to the events we’re promoting below, we also added the regular rides of the Sun City Cyclists. They do a group ride every day at 9 am though their speed and distance expect for Saturdays is pretty pedestrian so all you hammerheads should use their rides for recovery. If you live in Georgetown and are retired or unemployed (9 AM on weekdays!), check them out. All are welcome.

Thursday, February 5
10th Thursday Night Road Ride 7 PM, Drungo Ice House, 2828 Rio Grande All levels of riders are welcome on this 20-25 mile night ride at a social pace with stops to regroup. Lights are mandatory and helmets strongly recommended. Come early and enjoy drinks and food before and after the ride. This week will be running differently- since it’s all in-town, it’ll be “friendly-drop.” That means that if we can see your light at a regrouping point, we’ll wait for you. There is now a Facebook group called Thursday Night Road Ride.

ATXFixed presents: Fabulous Friday Relay! 4:20, Capitol Grounds The first friday of the month means Fabulous Friday alleycat races. An informal in town race and scavenger hunt, alleycat races are a blast and not to be missed. This month’s race is a relay. Fixed gears bikes are required. Come race or cheer.
Within ReachSneak Preview 6:30, Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, 400 Nueces Cyclists Mandy & Ryan are on a 12,000 mile “bikepack” to the East Coast and back to California, using their sociable bicycle and trailer with solar-powered electronics. The result is a feature length documentary film, scheduled to release at the end of 2009. The film will present a realistic experience of seeking out and living in sustainable community. Join them as they stop in Austin for snacks, a slideshow and sneak peak of the project as well as a discussion on how to live more sustainably within your community.

Alsatian Country Omnium, Time Trial and Criterium Races 7 AM, Time Trials, Iron Haus Fitness, 842 FM 471 N, Castroville, TX 10:30 AM, Criterium, 816 Alsace Ave, Castroville, TX Located in Castroville, Texas (Near San Antonio), the Alsatian Country Omnium is a Time Trial, Criterium, and Road Race (Sunday) over one weekend with $7500 in price money. There will be 9 TT categories from Cat 5 to Pro with riders starting at 30 second intervals and will be 9 Criterium races with categories from Cat 5 to Pro.
Mellow Johnny’s Scout-A-Ride 8 AM, Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, 400 Nueces Saturday mornings spent exploring City of Austin bike routes finding new neighborhoods and ways to get around on your bike. This Week’s Theme: Mueller Meander. Today’s ride cruises through the east side to check out the new Mueller development then visits Cherrywood before returning. Dirty Dozen 12 & 6 Hour Mountain Bike Race 8 AM, Bluff Creek Ranch, Warda, TX This race is a 6 or 12 Hour mountain bike relay race on an 7 mile single-track course. Teams try to log as many laps as possible, with only 1 member riding at a time, in the 12 hour time period. This race may also be done solo. NRC Pedal Masher will present $50.00 to the male & female that turn the NRC Pedal Masher Fastest Lap during the Dirty Dozen. There will also be an award for the fastest La Mans runner start. Over $10,000 in prizes and awards!
Austin Mountain Bike Patrol 9 AM, Walnut Creek Municipal Park 12138 N. Lamar Blvd Sponsored by the Austin Ridge Riders, the Austin Mountain Bike Patrol (AMBP) promotes bike safety and proper trail etiquette, as well as providing minor first aid and mechanical assistance to all trail users as needed. You don’t need to be a skilled bicyclist to ride, but you must wear a helmet and have a mechanically-sound mountain bike to participate. If you do plan on riding with the patrol, always call beforehand to confirm, as the weather and/or trail conditions may necessitate a ride cancellation. There will be 9 categories of road racing from Cat 5 to Pro with distances of 30 to 75 miles.
Underground Underwear Race 1 PM, Lamar Street Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, Lady Bird Lake An informal in town race and scavenger hunt, alleycat races are a blast and not to be missed. Capital City BMX Weekly Race Series 1 PM, Capital City BMX, 15010 FM Road 620 N Opened in November 2008, Capital City BMX offers you a chance to learn and race BMX. BMX races are held every Sunday with rider check-in 1-2 PM. Cost $10/rider.
Hardcourt Bike Polo 4 PM, Bartholomew Park, 5201 Berkman Dr Bike polo has come to Austin. Join fellow bike polo enthusiasts for a friendly Sunday match every week at 4pm at Bartholomew Park off East 51st. All bikes and skill levels are welcome and spare mallets and balls are available if you don’t have any.

Velocity Cycling Club Monthly Meeting 7 PM, REI Downtown, 601 N Lamar Blvd Monthly meeting of the Velocity Cycling Club, a developmental cycling program open to riders of all ages and abilities. The focus is to promote the sport of cycling by facilitating the development of cyclists of all ages. As such, Velocity offers opportunities for inexperienced riders to learn from more experienced, skilled riders and provides access to personal coaching programs.
February Full Moon Cruise, Full Snow Moon 11:59 PM, Lamar Street Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, Lady Bird Lake It’s the return of the Full Moon Cruise. This month’s theme is ull Snow Moon- “Usually the heaviest snows fall in February. Hunting becomes very difficult, and hence to some Native American tribes this was the Hunger Moon.” Bring your blinkies and meet at the Lamar Street/Pfluger Pedestrian bridge on Lady Bird Lake. This is a social ride that usually ends with a party in the wee hours.

CAMPO Bicycle/Pedestrian Subcommittee 1:30 PM, CAMPO office, 505 Barton Springs Rd., Suite 700 CAMPO has an ad-hoc committee known as the CAMPO Bicycle & Pedestrian Subcommittee that was formed to address regional bicycle and pedestrian planning issues. The committee has both citizen and member jurisdictions representation and has taken on a variety of bike/ped planning tasks, in addition to becoming a resource for bicycle/pedestrian coordination and information sharing.
Urban Transportation Commission 6 PM, Austin City Hall, 301 West 2nd Street, Boards and Commissions Room, #1101 This commission advises the city council, city manager and all other transportation-related departments concerning transportation-related matter. February’s focus is Intermodal transportation night – Integrating transit options.
