Austin Bike Culture Calendar Events: 12/31/09- 1/6/09
Posted Dec 31 2009 6:57am
On Tuesday, I mentioned that in 2009 over 4200 bike related events occurred in Austin yielding an average event every 2 hours. 2010 doesn’t seem to be letting up. Social Cycling ATX’s Thursday Night Social Ride and the Full Moon Cruise tonight will ensure you can ring in the New Year on two wheels in style. Speaking of style, be sure to be downtown at 6 PM tonight for the First Night parade including the latest creations from Austin Bike Zoo. On New Year’s Day there are several chances to start the New Year right or pay the penance for the previous night’s bacchanalia. Yes, 2010 is looking good.
Here’s a quick run down of recommended events for the coming week from our comprehensive calendar of all cycling events. Thanks to Jason at ATXBS for letting us know about some events we couldn’t find elsewhere. As always, if there is an event you know about that’s not on our calendar contact us, and we’ll add your event on and possibly add it to the weekly round up.
Thursday Night Social Ride 7:30 PM, The Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. (Corner of 4th and Navasota
A ride from the Facebook group Social Cycling ATX. that has gotten so big it had to abandon the Pfluger Bridge start location. Meet at 7:30 p.m. leave at 8 p.m. This week Social Cycling ATX is putting on a TWELVE HOUR bike event that spans two years. We ride around on a nice long cruise ending up at the 21st Street Coop (map here: ). The bike friendly folks over at New Belgium have set us up with a couple of kegs of the good stuff. DJ Blake Brandon is spinning in the New Year for a NYE dance party. After we are done dancing in the New Year, the ride continues and it’s Whiteside’s show. The pace will pick up a bit, but not too fast. He’s going to take you on another nice long cruise, then back to the 21st St Coop for another keg of New Belgium and some more dancing. This promises to be epic. To hell with the overcrowded downtown scene, this will be our own private rolling nightclub. Parking will be no problem. Read our recent article on the popular weekly ride.
